Ratcliffe, Owner of Manchester United: "We Want to Be Like Real Madrid, and That Will Take Some Time"

The new co-owner of Manchester United Sir Jim Ratcliffe said rather loud statements in an interview with Bloomberg where he made it clear that the club has all the intentions to turn into ‘Real Madrid. But he noted that it will take some time to attain this noble goal.

Ratcliffe who bought 27. 7% of the stake in the club in February for £ 1. 3bn expressed disappointment in the previous policy of the club to spend huge amounts of money without resulting in the expected sporting achievements. He also stated that it is still possible to improve in all sections in Manchester United and underlined that the team requires 2 or 3 summer transfers to become stronger.

Ratcliffe's Future Strategies

Speaking to the press as he prepared for his first summer transfer window in charge of the club he affirmed that all the teams’ problems cannot be fixed in one transfer window. He pointed out, “Man United does not have anyone on the team that is worth €100m+, and going out to buy one star will not fix the team. ”

The Ideal Model: Real Madrid

Ratcliffe mentioned that he has taken cognizance of wiser investments and this is why Real Madrid, the Spanish Club has remained an example to emulate on this aspect as it has been successful most of the times it invested. He continued, “the net spending since the departure of both Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill is £1. 1 billion, Real Madrid on the other side spent amounts of £200 million, they today possess six or seven players, each valued £100 million and more, they also built the new Bernebeu. ”

Investing in the Future

Summing up his vision on how he plans to change Manchester United, Ratcliffe said he would use half of his purchase price to invest in “future improvements in Old Trafford. ” This investment, though, comes after he had bought 27. 7% of the club’s stock, further painting the picture of a man ready to work on the reconstruction of the team and restoring it back to its glory.

This is why the words spoken by Jim Ratcliffe can be considered great, and his intentions and plans to return Manchester United to the leaders fantastic. The most realistic issue that comes with the prognosis is the ability to achieve these goals while competing at the Premier League. Nevertheless, proper investments and definite plans seem to be the way for the reached results. As with any bullish visions and plans, only time will tell on how fit Ratcliffe is to execute his dreams.
